Hannibal was born in Carthage and lived from 248 to 183 B.C. He is the son of Hamilcar Barca. Hannibal was a great Carthaginian general who hated the Romans. He was living around the time of the Roman Republic growth and expansion. When Hasdrubal was killed in 221 B.C. Hannibal was elected as commander-in-chief of the military. Hannibal is well known for bringing an army of war elephants over the Alps and Pyrenees mountains. Hannibal was a strong leader and conquered Rome for 15 years. The Romans forced his back into Carthage, and later defeated by the Romans there. I think that Hannibal's reputation as being a monster was well deserved. He was seeking power, and conquered many people in order to achieve his goal. The Roman's saw him as a threat and that is why the looked at him as a monster.Citation: "Hannibal." 2010.
